DIY Ombre Hair: Update

Remember when I decided to try a DIY ombre effect on my hair? After a couple of months, the subtle effect was less and less noticeable to me (although others would comment on it), so I decided to do it again.

Applying bleach the second time around meant the whole process was a little quicker, as it was already pre-lightened, but I used exactly the same technique as in the original post, just checking a little more frequently. It's never a bad thing to check regularly when you're dealing with bleach.

I'm so thrilled with how it worked out, especially once it's curled (I think the curls mean the layers are more uneven, giving it more texture and a slightly more natural look. Even when I tried to vary the lengths of each section that I added bleach to, I think it could still have more variation).

I don't think I'll need to do it again, unless my hair grows even longer and I decide it needs a longer length of highlighting to the ends. I'll definitely be due for a trim after all this!

What do you think? Ever had success (or epic disasters!) with DIY hair lightening?

  1. That looks rather pretty!
Can't believe how long your hair is getting though!

    1. I know, it's pretty ridiculous. The curls actually make it a bit shorter than it really is, too.

  2. I love it - looks beautiful. I've had heaps of disasters, in my teens i would bleach my hair with the facial hair bleaching creme... not a good look at all.

    1. Oh no! Probably not the greatest idea ever, but at least it makes a good story, right?
